The Drive In Memoirs

I went to Drive In yesterday after almost a decade and the first time with friends. Drive in Cinema was one tourist spot, where u took uncle, aunty, cousins etc when they came visiting. With lack of places to watch we went there mostly becuz it not only let u sit wherever u want but also let u carry ur food.. It was very well maintained and a beautiful concept. Ahmedabad is the only city where it has been able to survive, I personally attribute it to the fact that we are a dry state and it is easier to keep brawls and drunk street fights low.

Drive in brought back a part of childhood which was most cherished. As kids we went there in big groups as family outing and ran all across the place, fought, laughed, cried.... Drive in was the place for celebration without reason. People armed with chairs and tons of food and even small board games and stuff kids could play in the cool evening breeze. It was an evening picnic spot. A mammoth 800 or odd car capacity seater in the middle of a city growing rapidly. The trees, the smell of the wet sand, anytime food, games and if u r sulking one tight slap and u will be found sleeping in someone's lap... Drive in is synonymous to beautiful memories.

It still has this homely feeling to it it does not tie u to ur seat with rubbish popcorn for 3 hours. I kept walking all around the place, watching the useless movie from all angles and remembering the good times spent with family there. . I am sure a lot of people do go there regularly but i am sure not as many as it used to attract earlier. As we sat there sharing Drive In stories, it was as if we had gone back in time and each of us could only recollect happy moments.

Once in a while it still runs to packed houses but it has lost its charm. Maybe the pace of the city got to this laid back huge guy. Off late and slowly and partly becuz of multiplexes Drive In started decaying. But still it was nice and should go there more often before it makes way for maybe another mall or multiplex... And the sweet smell of sand has disappeared...
